Rules Committee

The Rules Committee of the Supreme Court is established under s. 54 of the Judicature Act. The Rules Committee meets at least once a year and is empowered, under s. 55 of the Judicature Act and s. 25(2) of the Divorce Act, to make rules of procedure for the Supreme Court in civil and family law matters.

The current members of the Rules Committee of the Supreme Court are:

Justice Frances J. Knickle – nominated by the Chief Justice of Newfoundland and Labrador

Justice Jane M. Fitzpatrick – designated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

Justice Sandra R. Chaytor – designated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

Justice Glen L.C. Noel – designated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

Justice Philip W. Osborne – designated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

Susan Foss – nominated by the Chief Executive Officer

Leanne O’Leary – appointed by the Benchers of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador

Paul Burgess, Q.C. – appointed by the Benchers of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador

Denise Woodrow – nominated by the Minister of Justice and Public Safety
