Grand Falls-Windsor

The first permanent superior Courthouse in Grand Falls was located on High Street in what is now Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland. This Court, which housed the District Court covered the Green Bay/White Bay area and the Labrador portion of the province. This Courthouse was in operation up to the mid 1970’s. Commencing in the mid 1970’s, both the Provincial Court and the District Court began operating out of the Provincial Building located on Cromer Avenue, Grand Falls, Newfoundland.

The District Court circuited to Labrador until 1984 when such circuits became unnecessary with the establishment of the District Court in Happy Valley/Goose Bay in that year.

In September, 1986, the District Court was abolished and merged into Supreme Court. The Supreme Court continued to operate from the Provincial Building until the construction of the current Courthouse was completed in 1989.

In December, 1989, the Provincial and the Supreme Courts moved into this new Courthouse which is situate at 3 Cromer Avenue in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland. The new Courthouse was officially opened on October 22, 1990.
