Adult Protection Act

The Adult Protection Act establishes a procedure whereby the Provincial Director of Adults in Need of Protective Intervention may undertake investigations and make applications to the Court in relation to adults who are, for example, incapable of properly caring for themselves by reason of physical or mental infirmity or who are not receiving proper care and attention. In those instances where a person is declared to be a neglected adult, the Court may also make orders directing where and with whom the neglected adult shall reside and declaring the neglected adult to be a dependent so as to allow the Director or another caregiver to apply for support for him or her pursuant to the Family Law Act.
