How do I obtain a records check?
If you live in the jurisdiction of the RNC and you do not have a criminal record, you can proceed directly to the RNC and fill out an application to obtain a certificate of conduct. The cost for this service at the RNC is $20.00. If a conviction does appear at the RNC, you will be directed to the court where the conviction arose. At Provincial Court, you will be asked to fill in an application for a court check. There will be no charge for this service if you have a receipt to show that you already paid at the RNC. The Court will process your application and provide you with a certified copy of your criminal record within seven days. You must take your certified record back to the RNC. A certificate of conduct may be denied based on what your criminal record discloses.
If you live in the jurisdiction of the RNC and you have a criminal record, go directly to any court centre. Once you have obtained your certified criminal record from the Court, you must take your documentation back to the RNC. There will be no charge at the RNC when you produce your receipt from Provincial Court. A receipt is honoured for 6 months. A certificate of conduct may be denied based on what your criminal record discloses.
If you live in the RCMP jurisdiction, you must attend at the Provincial Court in your area whether or not you have a criminal record. At Provincial Court, you will be asked to fill in an application for a court check. There is a charge of $20.00 for this service. The Court will process your application and provide you with a certified copy of your criminal record within seven days. You must take your certified record back to the RCMP. A certificate of conduct may be denied based on what your criminal record discloses.
There is no charge for a criminal records check at Provincial Court if the application is to adopt a child or to become a foster parent, or if it is required to become a volunteer. A letter from the applicable organization will be required before your application can be processed.
