ANNOUNCEMENT

The Cour provinciale De Terre-Neuve-Et-Labrador is proud to announce a new partnership with Memorial University of Newfoundland. Together we have developed a new innovative program in Court Administration. The Division of Lifelong Learning is offering a Certificate in Court Administration. This certificate is comprised of seven (7) modules which are outlined in the attached flyer.

This program is open to all employees of the Provincial Court of Newfoundland and Labrador on an application for enrolment basis. This program is not mandatory and attendance is voluntary. Some modules will be offered during work days; others will be on weekends. Tuition and travel costs will be paid by the Court. However, as enrolment is voluntary, overtime will not be paid to cover attendance outside normal work days and hours.

Training will be offered on a regional basis, Eastern and Western.

Provincial Court Manager Receives Court Management Certification

Williamsburg, VA (Nov. 18, 2005) – Shelley Lynn Organ, manager of Court services, Eastern, of the Provincial Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, graduated Nov. 18 from the Court Management Program (CMP) of the Institute for Court Management (ICM), which is the educational arm of the National Center for State Courts.

CMP, the only program of its kind in the United States, is a two-phase program established for mid-level Court managers interested in strengthening their management knowledge, skills, and abilities. The program complements the training needs of Courts implementing the National Association for Court Management’s (NACM) core competencies.

The National Center for State Courts is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership and service to the state Courts. The National Center, founded in 1971 with the enCouragement of Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger, provides leadership, research, technology, education, and training to the state Courts. The National Center also is taking the lead on several key issues facing the justice system. For example, it has established the Civil Justice Reform Initiative, which is a multi-year project that will examine the most efficient practices in civil case management and how complex litigation procedures can be improved through the use of technology. Other national initiatives being driven by the National Center include improving public trust and confidence in the Courts, pro se litigation, and the judicial selection process.
