ABOUT THE COURT

The Court consists of 23 judges, including the Chief Judge and the Coordinating Judge, and over 70 administrative and support staff. There are 11 permanent court centres and 30 sites which the court visits on circuit.

The Court sits every day of the week. With the assistance of modern technology, remote appearances of accused and witnesses via video or teleconferencing is becoming more of a regular occurrence. There is always a duty judge on call 24 hours, 7 days a week, with backup judges available, if needed.

While the Court has a lengthy and interesting history, the Court is always looking to the future for ways of improving the level and quality of the service it provides to the public. The Court issues an annual report describing the level of activity in the court at the conclusion of each fiscal year. Periodic reassessment of court operations is part of its ongoing operational planning.

The Court participates in various outreach programs including the “Lunch with the Judge” program.
